Lebensraum - Living Space” by Thanasis Triaridis

(Spring 2025)

A play-experiment that blurs the boundaries between comedy and thriller, truth and lies, innocence and guilt, actors and audience. Taking as its starting point the Nazi expansionist theory of Living Space (Lebensraum), the play nightmarishly transcribes the mechanisms of enslavement and inhumanity to the present day.

Two people meet on stage: an experiment operator and a test animal who agrees to participate in exchange for payment. At first, everything seems almost funny, but things soon go awry.

The Theatrical Workshop of Preveza, in collaboration with Artifactory, presents the challenging play “Lebensraum – Living Space” by Thanasis Triaridis, directed by Lili Sakka, for two performances only, on May 24 and 25, 2025, at the Castle of Agios Andreas in Preveza. The performance on May 24 will be attended by the author Thanasis Triaridis.

The meaning of "Lebensraum" – Living Space:

The Nazi theory of the Living Space was the basis of Hitler's strategy for global domination, promoting the creation of a racially "superior" society and the displacement or extermination of those considered "inferior." The play draws from this tragic historical page in order to pose crucial questions for today.

The performance takes place within the framework of the project "Visible Past - Paths of Memory" which is implemented with the participation of Artifactory and co-funded by the European Union through the European Remembrance program (CERV-2023-Citizens-Rem).

"Visible Past" aims to highlight important historical events of the 20th century, in order to understand their impact on the present, to highlight the importance of the values of tolerance and mutual respect, and to strengthen collective memory in Europe.

Five European bodies participate in the project: the Villa Greppi Consortium (Italy) which has the coordination and scientific guidance, the University of Coimbra and the Contextos cooperative (Portugal), the Austrian Sapere Aude and the Greek Urban Non-Profit Company Artifactory.
